Some Tips for Surprising Your Guests

Have You Heard about a Book Party?

Book clubs are fun, but friends who like to read and enjoy each other’s company are much more fun. You could easily become known as the hostess who came up with the idea of a book dinner or a reading party, and once a month you all get together to discuss a particular book or author. You could even incorporate the idea of a costume party into the evening and have each person come as a character. To prevent confusion, at the end of the night, each participant could pick a name from the hat of the characters from the next book and that is who they will come as the next time.

Remember Goody Bags From When You Were a Kid?

If your event is not very formal, a cute idea that has recently come back into favor is the offering of a goody bag for adults as soon as they arrive. It could include disposable cameras, for candid shots throughout and props for any games that will be played. If it’s a costume party, or a book party, both themes could carry over to a goody bag fairly easily. Bookmarks, when properly chosen and purchased with specific people in mind, are excellent mementos of a wonderful evening. Considering the needs of your guests and allowing for the personalization of each goody bag, will also go a long way towards being the best possible hostess that you can be.

Everyone wants to know that they are thought of fondly and it can become very challenging after a while to come up with or interesting diversions for your guests. Allowing

for change as it occurs and never leading people where you want them to go could result in more of a fun and educational experience than you ever expected. It has been noted over the years that getting to know people in different settings can be like getting to know a new person, all over again.
Remember, a good host will anticipate the needs of her guests, have a contingency plan if things do not go as expected and will always do her best to

make that all of her guests enjoy themselves. If all of those things are true, you will be a good and memorable host, even if things do not turn out the way you had originally

planned for them to. Surprising a guest, in a positive way, and being a good hostess can also help you be sure that you get invitations to their future events as well.
