Some Tips for Surprising Your Guests

Surprising Your Guests

So, you know how to be a good host, you know everyone at the party and you have done this many times before. Now it is time to shake these things up a little bit and think outside the box. Any kind of new game could be fun, whether it is teaching everyone to play poker for coupons or pretzel sticks or figuring out who the best person is at Dominos. The stand-by favorite of Trivial pursuit can be fun as well, especially given the different versions of this game that are now available.
If those don’t sound like something that would be popular at this gathering, you may want to re-consider the food or the theme. Even if you haven’t had a theme before, it could be a fun way to break the ice. If appropriate for the health and personal situations of each person attending, making one or more outrageous, decadent desserts is always going to make people remember the event.
You are never too old for costume parties and they do not need to be a full costume. People could show up with just a prop or a mask they have bought or made, and everyone has to guess what they represent. The person who guesses the most, accurately, could win an inexpensive door prize, such as a candle or a picture of all of the guests. It doesn’t really matter what they win, or even what the theme is because what actually matters is that everyone had fun and remembers the event as something new and exciting.

Trying a New Recipe

Let’s face it, chicken and beef are easily the most common items at weddings and anywhere that you have guests. And although there are a million and one different things that can be done with both, this may be your opportunity to try something new. Really consider what you have enjoyed at dinners with other people and try to include that in your meal plan. A more exotic food presents with unlimited conversation, as the culture and traditions of that food can be discussed.
Something else that has proven to be very popular in recent years in having an appetizer from one culture, a main course from another, and dessert from still another. Even beverages can be from a particular part of the world and this is a wonderful chance for your guests to eat types of food they may not have any prior experience with.
When you are determining what foods to offer, as you find the recipes that you like, it is important that you plan ahead. Obviously, you will need to make enough food for everyone to be full, but you should also plan a dry run for the food you have chosen. Unfortunately, there are recipes that look great on pape,r but fail badly in the kitchen and it has happened to some of the best chefs in the world a time or two. Make sure you are familiar with the preparation and serving of the food, if you want everything to go as smoothly as possible.
