Do You Know Enough About Makeup?

What are Your Skin Care Needs?
As previously noted, there is an enormous selection of makeup that is currently available, even once you have learned about the options of cruelty-free makeup. Your first decision should be determining what kind of coverage you need and what kind of makeup you will be comfortable using. Many women prefer to use eye-shadow and lipstick only, while others won’t leave to check the mail without a full face of makeup on.

A good rule of thumb is that if your skin tone is uneven, due to scarring, acne, vittiligo or an unknown reason, you will probably need foundation. The amount of coverage you need is what will tell you how heavy it should be. In general, more severe skin irregularities are going to need full coverage. Always make sure that your makeup has a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) even if you also have sunblock or moisturizer on with SPF, unless your physician has said otherwise. Premature aging and cancer are two very significant problems that could be the result of sun exposure without adequate protection.

Concealer, applied in conjunction with foundation and loose powder could cover or minimize almost any flaw on your face. Heavier makeup, often called camouflage makeup, can be found in waterproof or water-resistant formulas, typically in department stores. This type of makeup is ideal for severe scarring, depigmentation and several formulas can even cover up tattoos entirely. Mineral makeup, now being produced by several different companies is a good option for someone who wants full coverage makeup but does not want to feel as if they are drowning their skin. If you are considering mineral makeup, you will need to investigate the different options that are available to you, because even though they are usually considered to be “full-coverage” products, they are not always adequate for severe problems that you are covering up.

It is also very important that you change your skin care and makeup routine as you age and throughout the year. Each season has different colors and the foundation and eye-liner that were perfect for your needs when you were 20 are unlikely to have the same results 10 or 15 years later. As your skin changes, even from your 20’s to 30’s, you are more likely to need items with more moisture and you may want to consider purple eye-liner for the office or green mascara. As your life changes, your makeup should, too…after all, you probably won’t wear the same clothes to your job today that you wore to your job back then, will you?
