Are You Planning for a Home Renovation?

0

Will it be a New Kitchen? A Second Living Area? A finished Basement?

If you bought your home with the idea that it would be a starter home and you’re still there, it can be tempting to re-do as much as possible. The chances are, though, that if

you could afford to change everything in your home, you probably could afford to buy a bigger house anyway. When you are deciding what to change, it is often recommended that you consider the current and future needs of everyone in your home.

You may really want a laundry chute to drop dirty laundry from the bedrooms into your laundry room, but it may not be as important as having a bigger kitchen. If you have young children, they will soon grow up and the extra bedroom that you wouldn’t mind having today will become absolutely happy wheels necessary when they refuse to share a room a few years from now.

Some home-owners have found that what allowed them to have their “dream-home” was to do a series of renovations over several years. They will obtain a line of credit or use their savings to pay for the renovations. As soon as the loan is paid off or their savings have been replenished, the next item on their list begins. Over time, this can give them the house that they can afford, that has been designed to their exact requirements.

If you are considering renovating your home, and are prepared for it financially, the best time to start the process is now. Even if they cannot schedule it for a few months, getting quotes and determining exactly what be done can be accomplished months ahead of the actual work.
